This dream project features elements to engage three collaborative agencies that use the space for gathering community, hosting events and creating an educational outdoor space. A fruit tree orchard, surrounding a family play area with decks and umbrellas, produces an abundance of apples, figs, plums and cherries. A sweeping perennial garden spanning the length of the space has visual interest throughout the seasons, with lots of species that provide habitat material and seeds for birds. The outdoor classroom includes a chalkboard, seating and a veggie garden just for kids, and is adjacent to a veggie washing and processing station. The bountiful community garden space is delineated by trellis walls for climbing crops and beds overflowing with veggies, berries and herbs. This space came together so beautifully and has established itself as a focal point of community activity.
